Seagraves Farms offers a limited number of training spots available each year. Training is for country pleasure driving only, we do not offer any show training at this time. Each horse is treated as one of our own and we want to give you many options to achieve your goal. strict stall care is available for an additional fee or we have a turn out with shelter included in our price. It is the owners responsibility to bring grain, and any daily supplements or wormers with instructions. Hay is provided with plenty of fresh water at all times. I encourage owners to bring the harness that they will be driving the horse with after training, we will make sure the harness fits properly. Please understand no matter what package you choose it is important to use your horse at least once of week for at least 6 months after training. This insures that your horse remains quite and continues to learn and remember what he has been taught.

Quick training in 2 weeks $100-$150

This is for the folks who like to continue training on there own but don't like the initial hook up to cart. Your horse will learn to stop, turn left/right, and walk calmly while hooked.

30 Days under harness $175-$225

Your horse will be hooked to a cart a minimum of 30 times. This may slightly extend past 30 days depending on the weather. With this training they will stand cross tied, hook and unhook patiently, walk/trot while hooked, cross water and drive quietly in wooded trials.

Advanced Training $300-$350

This includes everything listed above and typically takes two months of continuous driving to achieve. The horse will be exposed to dogs (our three labs) while under harness and on trails. They will learn to side step when turning left and right to avoid turning into the shafts. We will load them and transport them to our other properties for unique experiences that will help them become more quiet and reliable under different circumstances. They will be driven with other horses around and asked to leave a pack. Two months of driving also helps to condition them and build up stamina.

Each horse is different and we take that into consideration when training. It may take longer to get results and your horse may catch on quickly and be safe ahead of schedule, price will be adjusted accordingly and an accurate estimate is given within the first week. A weekly report will be sent on the progress of your animal preferably by email. We encourage insurance policies on your animals due to the nature of the activities involving a horse, although it is not required. A release form must be signed on arrival stating that Seagraves Farms is not responsible for any injuries to your horse while in our care.
